Exterior Home Staging: Preparing Your Home's Outside for Sale

First impressions at the curb determine buyer interest before they enter. Here's how to prepare your home's exterior for sale.

Exterior Renovation Services

Curb appeal directly affects sale price and time on market. Buyers form strong first impressions from the exterior before they ever enter the home — and those impressions influence how they value everything they see inside.

Cleaning is the highest-ROI first step. Pressure washing siding, walkways, and the driveway removes years of grime and makes materials look near-new. Cost is modest; impact on appearance is significant.

Planning Your Project

Fresh paint at entry points — the front door, shutters, and mailbox — draws the eye to a welcoming focal point. Front door colour is an opportunity for deliberate design choice within a neutral overall palette.

Landscaping tidying: edge all planting beds, apply fresh mulch, remove dead plants, and add seasonal colour annuals at entry. These are inexpensive materials with high visual impact in listing photography.

Working With D&D Exterior Finishing

Minor repairs become visible under real estate photography lighting. Fill driveway cracks, replace missing soffit sections, repair any visibly sagging eavestrough — these details that don't bother you as a resident stand out in listing photos.

Lighting update: replace aged or non-functioning exterior fixtures. Modern fixtures at the entry and garage are an inexpensive update that makes after-dark photos (common in winter listings) present well.

Declutter the exterior. Remove items stored on the porch or stacked against the house, move garbage and recycling bins out of sight, and hide hoses and garden equipment. A clean, uncluttered exterior reads larger and more valuable.
