1. Water overflows during rain
From shelter, note the exact point and whether water rises inside the trough or shoots over from the roof. Debris, a low spot, an outlet restriction and concentrated runoff can cause different patterns. Ask for diagnosis before accepting upsizing as the only answer.
2. Joints drip after the rest of the run has drained
Repeated drips at a corner, end cap or outlet can identify a connection needing repair. Photograph the location and any staining beneath it. Continuous runs still have these junctions; βseamlessβ does not mean leak-proof.
3. The gutter pulls away or develops a sag
Loose or hanging material needs prompt assessment and a clear area beneath it. The defect can involve hangers, their fasteners or the supporting fascia. Reattaching into failed backing can leave the cause unresolved.
4. The downspout does not carry water through
Check for visible crushing, a disconnected elbow or an obstructed outlet end. A clear gutter may still overflow when its downspout or buried connection is restricted. Confirm where the pipe leads before modifying it.
5. Discharge returns toward the house
Look for erosion, ponding beside the foundation and water directed onto a walkway or neighbouring property. An extension, outlet relocation or grading assessment may be needed. Increasing gutter width does not fix an unsuitable discharge location.
Use the signs to define the service
Give the contractor dated photos, rain conditions, affected runs and prior repair history. Ask whether the work is cleaning, joint repair, support repair, a downspout change or replacement, and why.
Keep the repaired system accessible for care, including any guard access points. Check the affected location again during later rain and record whether the symptom changed.
