Manufactured stone veneer is made from lightweight concrete with pigmentation and texture designed to mimic natural stone. Quality products are visually convincing from a normal viewing distance. Significantly lighter and less expensive than natural stone.
Installation requirements for manufactured stone include appropriate substrate preparation: weather-resistant barrier, metal lath, and scratch coat provide the base for stone application. Skipping these layers leads to premature failure.

Grout joint selection and application affects the finished appearance significantly. Dry-stack (no grout) applications create a tight, contemporary look; grouted joints with wider spacing have a more traditional masonry appearance.
Water management at the base of stone veneer installations is critical. Flashing at the base directs water that penetrates behind stone panels outward and away. Missing or improperly installed base flashing allows water to accumulate in the wall assembly.
Stone veneer is most effective as an accent material — at the base of the home, around entry features, or at chimneys — rather than full-coverage cladding. Accent applications are more affordable and create strong visual impact.
